AXA Hong Kong and Macau has partnered with HK Express to unveil Asia’s first parametric flight delay insurance program, available to passengers purchasing the U-First service. This new offering, supported by AXA Partners, positions HK Express as the region’s pioneering airline to provide parametric insurance for delayed flights.
Parametric Flight Delay Coverage
The U-First service, known for its premium benefits such as priority check-in and express boarding, now includes automatic coverage for flight delays. Travelers who purchase U-First at least 48 hours before departure will have their flights automatically monitored. Should a delay of 90 minutes or more occur, eligible passengers can choose between a six-month global airport VIP lounge pass or a HK$80 cash payout for flights departing from Hong Kong.
Enhancing the Travel Experience
Kenneth Lai, Chief General Insurance Officer at AXA Hong Kong and Macau, praised the initiative as a reflection of the company’s commitment to customer-centric innovation. “This partnership introduces a simple, transparent, and efficient solution to meet evolving customer needs,” he stated.
KK Ong, Commercial Director at HK Express, underscored the flexibility the collaboration provides. “Our partnership with AXA ensures that U-First customers are now better protected against flight delays, reducing the frustration of unexpected delays.”
Adelane Mecellem, Regional CEO of AXA Partners, highlighted the broader benefits of the program. “This initiative demonstrates AXA Partners’ expertise in travel insurance, enhancing the traveler experience at every stage of the journey,” he said.
Expanding Reach to Mainland China and South Korea
AXA and HK Express are also extending their travel insurance offerings to customers in Mainland China and South Korea. The newly introduced products, available via HK Express’s digital platforms, cater to regional travelers and offer single-trip coverage.
Special Promotion on Personal Accident Insurance
To celebrate the expanded partnership, AXA is offering a limited-time 50% discount on its “SmartProtect Plus” personal accident insurance for HK Express customers. This promotion reduces annual premiums to as low as HK$183 and is valid until April 30, 2025, on a first-come, first-served basis.
Additional Travel Protection through Trip.com Partnership
Separately, AXA has also expanded its collaboration with Trip.com, launching a new range of travel insurance under the brand “Trip.com Travel Smart.” The coverage options include one-way, round-trip lite, and round-trip deluxe plans, offering protection for medical expenses, personal accidents, baggage loss, delays, and trip cancellations due to weather. Travelers can purchase these policies when booking flights or as standalone options, with claims and policy management available through the AXA app.
