Avolta, a leading travel retailer, has been awarded contracts to develop retail and food & beverage (F&B) concessions for over 11 years at John F. Kennedy International Airport’s (JFK) Terminal 8. This new partnership follows the company’s recent success in securing a similar contract at JFK’s Terminal 6.
As part of a US$125 million redevelopment project led by The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, Avolta will transform Terminal 8 into a vibrant, culturally rich travel hub. The company aims to bring the essence of New York City to the terminal, offering travelers an immersive experience through local-inspired retail, culinary concepts, and innovative hybrid offerings. The combined value of Avolta’s wins in both Terminal 6 and Terminal 8 is expected to boost the company’s regional revenue by approximately 3%.
Steve Johnson, Avolta’s CEO and President for North America, emphasized the transformative potential of the project: “JFK is undergoing a historic transformation, and Avolta is honored to partner with the Port Authority, URW, and American Airlines to revolutionize the travel experience at Terminal 8. New York City’s unique culture and world-class culinary and shopping scenes set a global standard, and we are excited to bring that to the millions of travelers who pass through T8.”
The retail and F&B offerings at Terminal 8 will be a key component of the broader redevelopment, which also includes collaboration with Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield (URW) Airports and American Airlines. Avolta’s strategic expansion in JFK highlights its commitment to growth in North America, contributing to an estimated 3% increase in the company’s regional revenue once fully operational.
Terminal 8 is projected to serve over seven million passengers in 2025, with international travelers expected to make up 64% of enplanements.
A Unique Culinary and Retail Experience
In food and beverage, Avolta’s HMSHost will introduce two renowned New York City culinary concepts to JFK for the first time. Eataly will provide a taste of Italy with a full-service restaurant, wine bar, and a hybrid café offering grab-and-go items, coffee, and a curated selection of Italian products. Meanwhile, Peach Palace by Momofuku, a new concept developed by celebrity chef David Chang, will offer an Asian-American menu blending familiar and innovative flavors.
In retail, Avolta’s Hudson will open five Hudson convenience stores, alongside iPorte, a tech store where travelers can test and purchase products from leading brands. Additionally, Dear NYC will be a locally inspired shop featuring products from New York-based makers and entrepreneurs, providing travelers with a unique and authentic representation of the city.
Xavier Rossinyol, Avolta’s CEO, expressed excitement about the company’s future at JFK, saying, “This milestone marks an important chapter for Avolta as we solidify our presence at the newly redeveloped JFK. Our success in Terminal 6 and now Terminal 8 underscores the potential for growth in the North American market.”
With the expansion, Avolta is poised to play a significant role in shaping the future of JFK’s retail and food offerings, creating a travel experience that mirrors the vibrant energy and cultural richness of New York City.
