LATAM Airlines Resumes Direct Flights Between Peru and Jamaica

by Alice

LATAM Airlines has officially resumed its direct flight service between Lima, Peru, and Montego Bay, Jamaica, marking a significant enhancement in the air connectivity between Latin America and the Caribbean. The inaugural flight, which landed at Sangster International Airport on December 1, 2024, was at full capacity, symbolizing the strong demand for travel between the two destinations.

The new route, which will operate three times a week on Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays, is expected to attract around 45,000 visitors in its first year of service. The flight is part of Jamaica’s broader strategy to tap into the growing South American market, offering increased accessibility for tourists from the region.

Hon. Edmund Bartlett, Jamaica’s Minister of Tourism, expressed his optimism about the development: “We’ve managed this industry to world-class standards, doubling our arrivals in eight years. Even in the face of the global challenges posed by COVID-19, we’ve bounced back strongly, achieving 4.3 million visitors and US$4.5 billion in tourism earnings.” He added, “The South American market represents the next frontier for Jamaica’s tourism growth. LATAM’s Lima hub, combined with our ongoing partnerships with other airlines, positions Jamaica to become the leading Caribbean destination for South American travelers.”

With LATAM’s extensive network from Lima to more than 20 South American cities, Jamaica becomes far more accessible to millions of potential visitors.”

The service was celebrated with a special ceremony attended by government officials from both Peru and Jamaica, as well as aviation and tourism industry leaders.
