American travel publication Travel+Leisure has unveiled its highly anticipated list of the world’s best places to visit in 2025, with Thailand and the Philippines earning notable spots among the 50 selected destinations. These two Southeast Asian countries were highlighted based on the preferences of the magazine’s editorial team, consisting of nearly two dozen experts.
Thailand has secured a position in the “Best for Cultural Immersion” category, celebrated for its rich blend of heritage and modern attractions. Renowned for its pristine beaches, flavorful street food, and iconic ancient temples, Thailand also offers diverse cultural experiences for every type of traveler. Travel+Leisure particularly recommends Kanchanaburi, a scenic town in western Thailand, for its picturesque landscapes, historical significance, and range of charming accommodations.
On the other hand, the Philippines is recognized in the “Best for Adventurous Travelers” category. With a sprawling coastline of over 36,000 kilometers, the country boasts unique natural beauty and opportunities for adventure. The magazine praises the Philippines for its azure waters flanked by dramatic limestone cliffs, a thriving urban capital brimming with restaurants, galleries, and nightlife, as well as its awe-inspiring ancient rice terraces carved into the mountainsides.
In addition to Thailand and the Philippines, other destinations featured on the list include Japan’s Osaka, Italy’s Trieste, California’s Sacramento, Greece’s Crete, and Spain’s Priorat region. Travel+Leisure’s editorial team reviewed nearly 120 potential locations, carefully considering destinations that offer both fresh experiences and enduring relevance for 2025.
