Asia Poised to Drive Global Tourism Growth in 2025

by Alice

As global tourism begins to rebound, Asia is set to play a leading role in the industry’s recovery and growth, with traveler preferences in 2025 expected to be shaped by a variety of emerging trends. A recent report by Amadeus, in partnership with Globetrender, highlights how Asia is emerging as a key destination for both leisure and business travelers.

As travel restrictions ease, Asia is experiencing a remarkable surge in tourism. Countries like China, which has expanded its visa-free travel options, and Thailand, which has introduced digital nomad visas and a visa-free program for 93 nations, are proving to be major draws. The cultural impact of hit shows like The White Lotus, set in Thailand, and the upcoming season of Squid Game has also fueled interest in the region, adding to its appeal. New flight routes, including Iberia’s direct service from Madrid to Tokyo, are making travel to Asia increasingly accessible.

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) forecasts that the Asia-Pacific region will see the fastest passenger growth over the next 15 years, accounting for more than half of the global increase in air traffic by 2043. Data from Amadeus further supports this trend, with outbound travel from key cities like Chengdu and Delhi rising by 66% and 31%, respectively, between 2016 and 2023.

“Asia isn’t just recovering; it’s redefining itself. By 2025, it will not only be a popular destination but a global trendsetter,” said Daniel Batchelor, Vice President of Global Corporate Marketing & Communications at Amadeus.

The report also identifies several emerging trends for 2025, including nostalgia-driven travel, personalized flying experiences, immersive hotel stays, and a growing preference for authentic, face-to-face interactions. These shifting traveler demands are crucial for industry leaders as they prepare to meet the evolving needs of future tourists.
