Miami is set to host the prestigious 2024 CMEx Leadership Awards and Fundraiser on Sunday, December 8, 2024, recognizing top travel and tourism executives from the airline, hotel, cruise, and shipping sectors. This event will highlight the essential contributions of these leaders in driving growth and development across the Caribbean.
One of the key honorees is Christine Valls, Director of Sales for Latin America and the Caribbean at United Airlines. Valls oversees the commercial strategy in the region, with her team generating an impressive $1 billion in revenue annually. Her leadership has been critical in connecting the Caribbean to global markets, boosting tourism and economic opportunities.
Eroline and Lyton Lamontagne, owners of the Fond Doux Eco Resort in St. Lucia, will also be honored for their commitment to sustainable tourism. The couple’s dedication to eco-luxury has positioned their resort as a model for responsible travel in the region, inspiring businesses to adopt more environmentally friendly practices.
Jennifer Nugent-Hill, Director of Government and Community Affairs at Tropical Shipping, will be recognized for her advocacy in maritime education and economic development. Nugent-Hill’s work has strengthened the shipping industry and fostered growth in the region’s blue economy.
Marie McKenzie, Senior Vice President of Government and Destination Affairs at Carnival Corporation & plc, will be celebrated for her strategic oversight in 27 countries and 57 ports throughout the Caribbean. McKenzie’s efforts have played a pivotal role in expanding cruise tourism, solidifying the region’s reputation as a premier cruise destination.
Simón Suárez, Vice President of Grupo Puntacana, will be honored for his 50-year contribution to tourism in the Dominican Republic. Suárez’s leadership has been instrumental in developing one of the Caribbean’s most popular tourist destinations, contributing significantly to regional tourism growth.
Vanessa Ledesma, CEO of the Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association (CHTA), will also receive recognition for her 25 years of service to the Caribbean hospitality industry. Ledesma’s work has advanced the region’s standing as a global leader in tourism and hospitality.
These leaders will join previously announced honorees such as 2024 Olympic Champion Thea LaFond from Dominica and Latia Duncombe, Director General of the Bahamas Ministry of Tourism, Investments, and Aviation. Others to be honored include Ellison “Tommy” Thompson, former CEO of the St. Kitts Tourism Authority, and Kashmie Ali, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Sailrock South Caicos.
