Macao Residents Can Now Visit Mainland China for Up to 180 Days

by Alice

Non-Chinese residents of Macao are now permitted to travel to mainland China for up to 180 days, as announced by the Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Macao. This new regulation, effective immediately, applies to both permanent and non-permanent foreign residents of the Special Administrative Region (SAR).

The updated rule expands the previous maximum stay of 90 days, which was granted to foreign permanent residents under the visa-free Mainland Travel Permit scheme established in July. This significant amendment aims to facilitate travel for various purposes, including tourism, trade, and visiting relatives.

Additionally, foreign non-permanent residents will benefit from the extended stay, which applies to five-year multiple-entry visas. The recent notice states that they are exempt from providing round-trip air tickets (or train and boat tickets) and hotel reservations when applying for visas to China.

For further inquiries, foreign residents can reach the visa consultation hotline at the commissioner’s office by calling 8791 5126 during business days from 2:30 PM to 6:30 PM. They may also contact the Chinese Visa Application Center at 8799 8117.

This move is part of a broader initiative by the mainland to liberalize visa regulations in recent months, aiming to revive tourism. Notably, passport holders from several countries—including Portugal, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, and Spain—are now eligible for visa-free visits of up to 15 days.
