United Airlines is set to make a significant mark in 2025 with the announcement of flights to eight brand-new cities, representing the airline’s largest international expansion to date. This move aims to enhance United’s global network and offer travelers access to unique international experiences.
New Destinations
For the first time, United will launch flights to Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia; Kaohsiung, Taiwan; Nuuk, Greenland; Palermo, Italy; Bilbao, Spain; Madeira, Portugal; Faro, Portugal; and Dakar, Senegal. Most of these routes will be serviced from United’s hubs at Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) and Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD).
Expanding Choices for Travelers
Patrick Quayle, the senior vice president of global network planning and alliances, stated, “No other airline gives customers nonstop access to as many unique international destinations and experiences from the U.S. as United. Our network provides the most choice and variety for our customers, whether they are looking for a relaxing seaside getaway, once-in-a-lifetime adventure travel, or to explore some of the most vibrant urban escapes across the globe.”
Key Flight Launch Dates
The expansion will kick off on May 21, 2025, with service between Newark and Palermo, operating three times a week. United will utilize a Boeing 767-400 aircraft for this route, making it the only airline to offer lie-flat business class seats between the U.S. and Palermo. Following this, nonstop flights from Newark to Bilbao will commence on May 31.
Additionally, United will launch four weekly flights to Faro starting May 16, followed by three weekly flights to Madeira on June 7. Currently, United offers flights to Lisbon from both Newark and Washington D.C.
Direct Access to Greenland
Travelers will also enjoy more accessible routes to Greenland, with new service planned from Newark to Nuuk starting June 14. This route will establish United as the only airline providing direct flights from the U.S. to Nuuk.
New Routes from Washington D.C.
From Washington D.C., United will introduce flights to Venice on May 22 and Nice on May 24, both of which are already serviced from Newark. Additionally, the airline will commence flights from Washington to Dakar on May 23.
Expanding Flights from Tokyo
In Asia, United will launch flights from Tokyo to both Ulaanbaatar and Kaohsiung, starting on May 1 and July 11, respectively.
Seasonal Flights and Additional Destinations
Beyond these new routes, United Airlines plans to reinstate several seasonal flights, including those to Athens and Barcelona, while increasing its direct service to Dubrovnik to daily flights. Furthermore, the airline is also adding flights to new destinations such as Dominica in the Caribbean and Marrakech.
Conclusion
With this extensive expansion, United Airlines is poised to provide travelers with greater access to diverse and exciting destinations across the globe. As the airline rolls out its new routes in 2025, travelers can look forward to a wealth of options for their next international adventure.
