MTR’s 45th Anniversary Celebration
In honor of the 45th anniversary of the MTR public transport system, a special anniversary-themed train has been introduced. This train, adorned with a classic red-and-white exterior, pays tribute to the first-generation carriages and is designed to evoke nostalgic memories for many Hongkongers.
Features of the Anniversary Train
The anniversary train features several notable elements:
‘Memories’ Themed Carriages: Four carriages are designed to reflect the 1990s era, complete with warm-toned lighting and classic ball-shaped hand holds, reminiscent of the orange-hued interiors from decades past.
‘Togetherness’ Themed Carriages: Another four carriages are themed around ‘Togetherness’ and showcase comic characters from “My Boy,” a popular series from the 70s and 80s. These carriages, revitalized by local comic artist Li Chi-tak, illustrate the evolution of Hong Kong’s railway system.
Duration and Routes
The MTR 45th anniversary train will be operational on selected urban lines from now until the end of the year. This limited-time experience offers a unique opportunity to reminisce and celebrate the history of Hong Kong’s iconic transport system.
