Victory Cruise

In a notable development for Chicago’s cruising scene, Victory Cruise Lines is set to return to the city in 2025. The Victory I and Victory II, two 190-passenger vessels, will dock exclusively at Navy Pier, marking a unique addition to the city’s maritime offerings.

Ships’ Background and Ownership

The Victory I and Victory II had been out of service for approximately a year following the bankruptcy of their previous owner, which led to their auction. The ships were originally operated by American Queen Voyages, founded by John Waggoner. Remarkably, Waggoner came out of retirement to repurchase the vessels for $1.9 million.

Upcoming 2025 Itinerary

For the 2025 season, Victory Cruise Lines has scheduled 36 trips. The itineraries include stops at popular destinations such as Mackinac Island, Sault Ste. Marie, Cleveland, Detroit, and Niagara Falls. Unlike most Great Lakes cruises that typically start or end in Milwaukee, Victory’s cruises will be uniquely “bookended by Chicago and Toronto,” according to Crain’s Chicago Business.

Exclusive Chicago Experience

Waggoner emphasized the exclusive nature of the cruises, noting that Victory Cruise Lines will be the only line to dock at Chicago’s Navy Pier. “Our cruise experience will offer many special touches, including being the only cruise line to dock at Chicago’s Navy Pier, and most of all, our ships will be a home away from home exploring all five Great Lakes,” he stated.
