Metro Considers New Subway Stop Near Hollywood Bowl

by Alice
News

Currently, patrons of the Hollywood Bowl face a 20-minute uphill walk or shuttle ride from the nearest subway station at Hollywood and Highland. However, this may soon change as officials explore the possibility of adding a new stop directly across the street from the iconic venue.

Proposed K Line Extension

The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro) is seeking public feedback on a proposed extension of the K Line. The K Line, which currently runs from just north of LAX to the E (Expo) Line, could potentially be extended all the way to Hollywood. A draft environmental impact report recently released by the agency outlines three possible routes for this extension.

Each route would connect the K Line to both the D (Purple) Line on Wilshire Boulevard and the B (Red) Line at Hollywood and Highland. The proposed routes include:

1. La Brea Avenue: One alignment would travel up La Brea Avenue.

2. Fairfax Avenue: Another route would proceed up Fairfax Avenue.

3. West Hollywood: The third option would veer west through the heart of West Hollywood.

All three proposals feature a potential final stop at the Hollywood Bowl, a development that has generated significant excitement among local residents.

Potential Stop Locations

The proposed Hollywood Bowl stop could be located in one of two places:

On the west side of Highland Avenue, toward the front of Lot B.

Across the street on the east side of Highland, near the stairs for the pedestrian underpass at triangular Lot C.

Public Input and Next Steps

1. Angelenos have until September 5 to voice their opinions on the proposed routes. Public comments can be submitted by attending a hearing or through phone, email, or mail.

2. Following the public comment period, officials will review the feedback and recommend a route to the Metro Board. The Board will then vote on the final decision for the project.

Context and Future Developments

Earlier this year, the Hollywood Bowl announced plans to transform a pair of stacked parking lots into more transit-friendly spaces, which resulted in a reduction of available parking spots. The venue’s operators are clearly focused on improving the flow of people in and out of the Bowl, and a new subway stop could significantly enhance convenience and efficiency.

The prospect of a new subway stop at the Hollywood Bowl promises to make access to the venue more streamlined, potentially easing transportation challenges for thousands of visitors.
