The cost of adventure travel within New Zealand can rival that of international trips, according to Southern Cross Travel Insurance (SCTI).
In an article on the SCTI website, CEO Jo McCauley revealed that domestic travel claims over the past 17 months have averaged 70% of the value of international claims. “Looking at our claims across the last 17 months, we’ve seen the average domestic claim sit at 70% of the value of an international claim,” McCauley stated.
The analysis also showed a higher number of claims for domestic travel policies compared to their flagship International Comprehensive policy from January 2023 to the end of May 2024. Additionally, the claims paid rate for domestic policies was slightly higher than for international policies.
“All of our data shows that customers are certainly finding reasons to claim on their domestic travels and illustrates just how much domestic travel insurance can support NZ travellers adventuring at home,” McCauley emphasized.
