Alaska Airlines has unveiled a new direct service connecting its Portland, Oregon hub to New Orleans, Louisiana, making it easier for West Coast travelers to visit “The Big Easy.”
Previously, passengers traveling this route had to connect through Seattle, resulting in travel times of up to nine hours. The new direct flight will significantly reduce this to four hours and 25 minutes. Departures from Portland are scheduled for 9:05 AM, with arrivals in New Orleans at 3:30 PM.
Tickets for this route are now on sale, with the inaugural flight set for January 2025, though the exact date has not been specified. Prices start at $149 for Saver fares, with first-class tickets available for $529 one-way. The flight will be operated on a Boeing 737-900.
“As the largest carrier in Portland for more than 20 years, it’s important we continue to expand the nonstop destinations we offer our guests and give them choices when planning their next trip,” said Kirsten Amrine, Alaska Airlines’ Vice President of Revenue Management and Network Planning.
New Orleans is renowned for its vibrant music scene, diverse cuisine, and the famous Mardi Gras festival. Portland is a favorite among outdoor enthusiasts, known for its bike paths, hiking trails, and water activities.
“Portland has been the top unserved destination from New Orleans, and this new route not only strengthens the connection between our vibrant cities but also underscores our commitment to enhancing the travel experience for our community and visitors alike,” said Kevin Dolliole, Director of Aviation at Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport.
This announcement is part of Alaska Airlines’ broader strategy to expand its network, including new routes from New York to Anchorage and Las Vegas to San Diego.
