CANYON COUNTRY, Calif. (KABC) — Following national trends, gas prices in Southern California are decreasing just in time for the summer travel season.
The average price per gallon in Los Angeles has fallen below $5, with the current average for regular unleaded at $4.87, down from $5.26 a month ago, according to the Auto Club.
One contributing factor is the increased oil and gas production within the United States. “This is a little bit different because we are still seeing weak demand for gasoline,” said Auto Club spokesman Doug Shupe. “And that, coupled with lower crude oil prices, is actually bringing pump prices down all around the country.”
Despite the drop, the West Coast continues to have some of the highest gas prices in the nation. Nationally, the average price per gallon has decreased by about 10 cents in the last week, now at $3.40.
Drivers are welcoming the decrease, which will make their travel budgets go further this summer. “We need relief,” said Orlando, a driver filling up in Canyon Country. “This is a good time for it.”
