Travelling from the Windy City to the City of Seven Hills just got more convenient.
ITA Airways, Italy’s premier airline, has introduced a new service linking Chicago and Rome. In an official press release, the airline announced that the route will initially operate six times weekly, with plans to increase to seven times weekly by June.
The flight, lasting 9 hours and 20 minutes, will depart from Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport at 3:00 p.m., arriving at Rome’s Leonardo da Vinci–Fiumicino Airport at 7:20 a.m. the following morning. Passengers will have the option of three cabin classes—Business, Premium Economy, and Economy—aboard an Airbus A330neo aircraft.
Tickets for upcoming flights are now on sale through ITA’s website.
Emiliana Limosani, Chief Commercial Officer of ITA Airways, expressed enthusiasm about the new route, stating, “This new destination, the seventh in North America, further enriches the intercontinental network of ITA Airways and consolidates our expansion towards the United States, which is the first international market for our Company.”
ITA Airways is affiliated with the SkyTeam Alliance loyalty program, enabling travelers to accrue or redeem miles with other member airlines such as Delta. Conversely, Chicago’s O’Hare serves as a major hub for United Airlines, a member of the rival Star Alliance network, which also operates multiple flights to Italy.
The addition of the Chicago route signifies ITA Airways’ continued expansion across North America. During peak summer travel, the airline plans to offer 140 weekly flights between North America and Italy.
Passengers aboard ITA Airways will experience a taste of Italian culture from the moment they board, with aircraft interiors designed by renowned car designer Walter De Silva, crew uniforms crafted by the esteemed Italian fashion house Brunello Cucinelli, and an in-flight menu curated by Italian chefs.
Rome has recently been identified as one of the top five most sought-after summer destinations of 2024, according to data from Google Flights. American Airlines has also announced its largest schedule to Italy this summer, including daily service to Rome from Chicago.
