Toronto Pearson Airport, located in Mississauga, has officially claimed the title of North America’s busiest domestic flight route for 2024, with its connection to Vancouver International Airport. According to recent data from aviation analytics provider OAG, nearly 3.5 million seats were booked on flights between the two airports, marking a significant jump in air travel demand.

With a total of 3,498,835 seats sold, the Pearson-Vancouver route outpaced the second-ranked domestic route in North America, which links Atlanta and Orlando with 3,474,713 seats. The popular Vancouver-Toronto connection finished first in OAG’s annual ranking of top domestic routes, a list that tracks the busiest flight routes across North America.

Leading the Charge

This year’s data reveals that flights between Toronto and Vancouver are far from just a commuter route; they have become a key artery for both business and leisure travelers. Toronto Pearson’s dominance on this route is highlighted by the fact that Vancouver was the single most popular destination from Canada’s busiest airport during the summer months. Airport officials reported that in July and August, approximately 320,000 travelers were booked on flights to Vancouver, making it the leading choice for domestic and international passengers at the airport.

Canadian Routes in the Spotlight

The Pearson-Vancouver route is one of the few Canadian connections featured in the top 10 rankings, with Vancouver-Calgary rounding out the list at number 10 with 2,960,192 seats booked.

As North America’s air travel demand continues to rise, Pearson’s link to Vancouver remains a key driver of the country’s aviation sector. This growing demand underscores the popularity and economic importance of this vital domestic connection.
