Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) is seeing a bustling start to the holiday travel season, with many passengers experiencing smooth journeys despite the high volume of travelers. According to AAA, nearly 1.3 million Philadelphia residents are expected to travel for the year-end holidays, marking a 3% increase from 2023.
For many, the excitement of reunions and celebrations is making the travel experience worthwhile. Michelle Gilroy, a resident of Old City, shared her excitement about having the whole family together for Christmas for the first time in seven years.
Despite the anticipated crowds, travelers have reported smooth sailing at PHL. Christine Moore from Dunwoody, Georgia, mentioned that TSA lines were under 30 minutes, and Jonathan Cyrus from Atlanta noted that his early arrival allowed for a quick 10-minute check-in and smooth security at Atlanta’s airport.
Others, like Susan Phillips from Salt Lake City, Utah, also had a positive experience, reporting a busy but efficient journey through the airport.
Looking ahead, PHL expects the busiest travel days to be December 26, 27, 29, and 30, with a steady flow of passengers. For those traveling by car, the best times to hit the road are on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, when traffic is expected to be lighter.
