Malaysia has emerged as the most Googled international travel destination for Vietnamese tourists in 2024, according to Google’s Year in Search report released on Friday.
The Southeast Asian neighbor topped the list, with Europe as the only other overseas destination, coming in at sixth place.
By October, Malaysia welcomed 290,000 Vietnamese visitors, closing in on the 340,000 total recorded for 2023. This growing popularity is attributed to affordable airfares, making Malaysia an attractive option for Vietnamese travelers seeking budget-friendly international trips.
However, domestic tourism continued to dominate Vietnamese search trends this year. Vinh Hy Bay in Ninh Thuan Province claimed the second spot, followed by the ancient town of Hoi An and Con Son Islet in Can Tho City.
Other notable mentions included Gia Lai, Da Lat, and Da Nang, underscoring the enduring appeal of Vietnam’s local destinations for its citizens.
The surge in interest in Malaysia underscores a broader shift in travel preferences while highlighting the continued love for Vietnam’s diverse landscapes.
