Japan is ramping up its efforts to attract international visitors to Expo 2025, which will take place in Osaka from April to October 2025. The Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO) has launched a range of fresh content to inspire travelers, offering immersive experiences that reflect the nation’s cultural richness and natural beauty.
Through newly designed webpages and social media campaigns, the JNTO invites global visitors to explore the country’s diverse regions and experience the essence of Japan’s “inochi”—or foundation—while attending the world-renowned Expo. The promotional content emphasizes the Expo’s sub-themes of “saving lives,” “empowering lives,” and “connecting lives,” providing a wide range of activities linked to these core concepts.
For “saving lives,” one notable offering is the Godzilla Rock Tour, which takes visitors on a boat ride around the UNESCO World Natural Heritage site of Shiretoko Peninsula in Hokkaido. This unique experience allows guests to witness the area’s pristine wildlife and learn about Japan’s efforts toward ecological conservation.
The sub-theme of “empowering lives” focuses on enhancing well-being through physical activity and diet. Travelers can immerse themselves in a variety of enriching experiences, such as a farm stay in Odate, Akita Prefecture, known for its traditional cuisine, or a tea field tour in the Southern Japanese Alps, where guests can taste locally produced green tea and explore the region’s agricultural heritage.
The final sub-theme, “connecting lives,” underscores community-building and societal enrichment. Visitors can participate in cultural experiences like Aomori’s Nebuta Festival, which celebrates the creation of large illuminated floats by local communities, or stay overnight at a Zen temple in Kyoto, learning about Zen philosophy from English-speaking priests.
Additionally, the JNTO’s new website offers practical travel resources, including destination guides, tips on Wi-Fi access, credit card usage, weather forecasts, and information on luggage storage and accessibility, making it easier for tourists to navigate their travels.
With these new initiatives, Japan is positioning Expo 2025 as an opportunity for travelers to explore not only a global event but also the rich cultural and natural tapestry that the country has to offer.
