Travelers looking to explore the rich landscapes and cultures of Central Asia now have a more seamless way to reach the region. Etihad Airways and Air Astana, the national carrier of Kazakhstan, have launched a new codeshare partnership, offering improved connectivity between Abu Dhabi and two of Kazakhstan’s major cities: Almaty and Astana.
The new agreement allows Etihad customers to book single-ticket, one-stop itineraries to Kazakhstan, starting from major U.S. hubs including Boston, Chicago, New York City, Toronto, and Washington D.C. Passengers will fly Etihad to Abu Dhabi and then connect to Air Astana’s service to Almaty or Astana. As Etihad does not operate direct flights to Kazakhstan, this partnership opens up a gateway for Etihad passengers to visit the vibrant country for the first time.
In addition to the convenience of a single booking, travelers can check their bags through to their final destination, making the journey smoother and more efficient.
Streamlined Travel Experience
“Etihad guests can now enjoy the ease of booking connecting flights and checking in once for their entire journey,” said Jurriaan Stelder, Vice President of Alliances and Industry Affairs at Etihad. This move is expected to further boost travel to the underexplored destination, providing a more accessible route to Kazakhstan’s attractions, from its unique history to the famous skiing resorts.
Luxurious Travel Options
Etihad passengers will enjoy the airline’s renowned in-flight services, which include a range of luxurious options across its cabins. The airline’s Airbus A380, which currently serves only New York’s JFK Airport from the U.S., features The Residence—a private, three-room suite with a shower and a double bed. Etihad’s first-class “Apartment” product, available on select flights, offers spacious, high-end amenities.
The airline also provides multiple ways to book flights using Etihad Guest miles, with business-class fares starting at 110,000 miles for a one-way journey to Abu Dhabi.
Discover Kazakhstan and Beyond
This new partnership not only facilitates travel to Kazakhstan but also opens up other destinations in Central Asia served by Air Astana, expanding Etihad’s reach beyond its traditional network. Kazakhstan’s growing popularity as a travel destination is reflected in recent promotions, such as Alaska Airlines’ discount on award redemptions for flights to the country.
Whether travelers are seeking skiing in the winter, exploring the rich cultural heritage, or venturing off the beaten path, this new codeshare agreement makes Kazakhstan an increasingly accessible and attractive destination.
