The United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) has recognized four villages from Southeast Asia as the “Best Tourist Villages” for 2024, a prestigious title that highlights their commitment to sustainable tourism.

Jatiluwih, nestled at an elevation of 700 meters on Bali’s scenic landscape near Mount Batu Kalu, boasts breathtaking terraced rice fields across 53,000 hectares. This tranquil village is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts, offering opportunities for hiking, camping, and cycling amidst lush agricultural land. Visitors can savor dishes made from locally sourced ingredients at nearby restaurants, enhancing their connection to the region’s rich agricultural heritage.

Wukirsari Village, located in Bantul, Yogyakarta, serves as a cultural hub for traditional Indonesian arts. Tra Que Village, located three kilometers from the historic city of Hoi An in Vietnam, boasts a rich history dating back to the 16th century. The UNWTO evaluated over 60 applications from 260 countries to select villages that exemplify excellence in sustainable tourism, emphasizing social equity, economic development, and environmental stewardship. The “Best Tourism Villages” initiative underscores the vital role of tourism in preserving rural landscapes, traditions, biodiversity, and local livelihoods through agriculture, fishing, and gastronomy.
