Goa Tourism made a significant impact at the World Travel Market (WTM) London, showcasing the state’s rich cultural heritage, spirituality, natural beauty, and commitment to sustainable tourism. The Goa pavilion provided an immersive experience, underscoring the state’s dedication to regenerative tourism and presenting Goa as an enriching destination that extends beyond its famed beaches.
Leading the delegation was Hon’ble Minister for Tourism Shri Rohan A. Khaunte, accompanied by key officials including Shri Sanjeev Ahuja, IAS, Secretary of Tourism; Shri Sandip Jacques, IAS, Secretary (Exposition of St. Francis Xavier); Shri Kuldeep Arolkar, Deputy Director of the Department of Tourism; and Shri Shawn Mendes, OSD to the Minister for Tourism. Together, they engaged with global tourism leaders to strengthen connections that will advance Goa’s tourism vision and enhance its presence on the international stage.
A Commitment to Sustainable and Responsible Tourism
The Goa Tourism Pavilion at WTM London reflected the state’s strategic focus on sustainable growth and responsible tourism practices. Under the “Goa Beyond Beaches” initiative, the pavilion highlighted diverse offerings such as adventure tourism, wellness retreats, spiritual experiences, and hinterland exploration. This approach encourages visitors to discover Goa’s rich history and cultural depth while alleviating the pressure on popular coastal areas and promoting eco-friendly travel.
Minister Rohan A. Khaunte emphasized that WTM London provided an ideal platform to introduce Goa’s regenerative tourism initiatives aimed at preserving the state’s natural and cultural assets. His message resonated with conscious travelers and industry stakeholders who prioritize sustainable tourism practices. By promoting a holistic view of Goa, the delegation aimed to attract tourists seeking meaningful experiences that transcend traditional beach holidays.
Building Global Partnerships for Enhanced Tourism
In addition to showcasing Goa’s attractions, the delegation sought to forge international partnerships. Meetings with representatives from prominent pavilions, including the Sharjah International Marine Sports Club and the Saudi Pavilion, facilitated productive discussions. Minister Khaunte and his team engaged with His Excellency Ahmed Al-Khateeb, Minister of Tourism and Chairman of the Saudi Tourism Authority, exploring potential collaborations that could enhance Goa’s global visibility and promote mutual tourism interests.
This collaborative approach reflects Goa’s strategic intent to build valuable networks and foster tourism exchanges that contribute to long-term growth. Goa Tourism aims to leverage these relationships to diversify its visitor base and tap into new markets, particularly in the Middle East and other regions where cultural tourism is gaining traction.
Engaging the Goan Diaspora and Cultural Influencers
The presence of notable members from the Goan diaspora, including opera singer Oscar Castellino and GOA UK representatives Chloe De Mendonca and Ravi Vaz, underscored Goa’s cultural appeal. Their involvement fostered a sense of nostalgia, reconnecting international Goans with their heritage and celebrating the enduring ties that bind the Goan community across borders.
Engaging with the Goan diaspora not only strengthens Goa’s cultural identity abroad but also encourages overseas Goans to act as ambassadors, promoting the state’s rich heritage and sustainable tourism practices to a wider audience.
Showcasing Unique and Sustainable Offerings
At WTM London, the Goa Tourism Pavilion highlighted eco-friendly and regenerative tourism initiatives. Visitors were introduced to the “Goa Beyond Beaches” campaign, which aims to showcase lesser-known aspects of Goa, such as wellness tourism, adventure opportunities, spiritual retreats, and cultural tours in the hinterlands. This initiative seeks to shift travelers’ perspectives, inviting them to discover the true essence of Goa beyond its coastline.
Secretary of Tourism Shri Sanjeev Ahuja emphasized that Goa’s approach aligns with the values of conscious travelers who prioritize sustainable, authentic experiences. He noted that the pavilion’s presentation allowed visitors to glimpse Goa’s depth, reinforcing the state’s reputation as a responsible and eco-friendly destination.
