The Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) has reintroduced its Pimpri-Chinchwad tourism bus service just in time for Diwali, offering residents and visitors the chance to explore the area’s historical and religious landmarks. The festive season relaunch aims to connect travelers with the region’s rich cultural heritage.
Initially launched in May 2023, the service encountered low demand, resulting in a scaled-back schedule and eventually a complete halt in operations. With an expected rise in tourists during Diwali, PMPML has resumed the service, hoping to make local tourism more accessible and enjoyable.
During its previous run, the service operated from the Nigdi depot on weekends, covering popular destinations such as Dehu, Alandi, and Prati-Shirdi Shirgaon. PMPML aimed for at least 35 passengers per trip but struggled with low turnout. Now, in response to public feedback and seasonal demand, the service has been expanded to seven major destinations around Pune, with a special emphasis on landmarks within Pimpri-Chinchwad.
Tickets for the “Pimpri-Chinchwad Darshan” bus service are available at designated centers across Nigdi, Bhosari, and Lokhande Bhavan in Pimpri. The service operates daily from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and provides a comprehensive day tour of the area’s iconic sites, offering a deep dive into their historical and cultural significance.
While the service promises convenience, some residents have raised concerns over ticket prices, suggesting that higher costs might affect overall ridership. PMPML is aware of these concerns and remains optimistic that the tourism service will draw a significant number of passengers, particularly from neighboring areas during the holiday season.
Designed to offer an immersive experience, the Pimpri-Chinchwad tourism bus service strives to provide a seamless and enriching journey through the area’s most celebrated sites, fostering a greater appreciation for the region’s heritage and vibrant culture.
