On October 23, the Sentosa Development Corporation (SDC) and STIC Travel Group (STIC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at bolstering Sentosa’s reputation as a sustainable destination within the Indian market.
This one-year collaboration will focus on developing innovative educational experiences for Indian students, showcasing Sentosa’s sustainable practices and diverse ecosystems. The partnership is set to create immersive learning environments that leverage Sentosa’s unique landscape as a living classroom, emphasizing the critical importance of sustainability.
Key educational themes will include the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, carbon footprint reduction, and biodiversity conservation. This initiative complements STIC’s broader objectives to enhance educational tourism in Singapore, providing Indian students with opportunities to engage with Singapore’s heritage and sustainability efforts.
A highlight of the partnership is the upcoming launch of the “Unchartered Sentosa” tour, which aims to inspire students to advocate for environmental change in their communities. Scheduled to commence in November 2024, this hands-on exploration will cover various sustainability principles through activities such as intertidal explorations on the Southern Shores, guided nature walks along the Serapong and Imbiah Trails, and an Amazing Race-inspired adventure on Sentosa and St John’s Island, focusing on responsible consumption.
Participants will also engage in interactive workshops on ocean survival skills at Lazarus Island, visit sustainable attractions like the Cable Car and Skyline Luge, and take part in an Eco Tour of Siloso Beach Resort, which highlights real-world applications of sustainable design and green technology.
Isha Goyal, CEO of STIC Travel Group, remarked, “Our partnership with SDC aligns perfectly with STIC’s mission to offer innovative and meaningful travel experiences. By combining our expertise in educational tourism with Sentosa’s world-class sustainable practices, we’re creating a truly distinct offering for Indian students. This initiative enhances their global perspective and equips them with practical sustainability knowledge to bring back to their communities.”
