The Upgraded Points study also revealed that the compensation amount travelers are willing to accept varies significantly by state. For instance, in Arkansas, passengers will agree to be bumped for an average minimum of $382, while in California, the figure rises to an average of $832.

Layover wait times and seasonal factors, such as holiday travel, also play a critical role in whether travelers are willing to relinquish their seats.
