Uttar Pradesh is gearing up to become a new destination for water tourism, with plans to introduce modern open catamaran boats in its iconic cities of Ayodhya, Mathura, and Kashi. This initiative is expected to significantly enhance the state’s burgeoning tourism sector.

Development of Water Tourism

According to reports, the state government has outlined strategies to expand water tourism, collaborating with the Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI). As part of this partnership, six catamaran boats will be introduced to provide tourists with scenic cruises along the rivers of Uttar Pradesh’s most cherished locations, with each city receiving two catamarans.

Currently, Ayodhya and Kashi each have one catamaran capable of seating 50 passengers. The Uttar Pradesh State Tourism Corporation has set forth specifications for the future catamarans, including requirements for open sides, a deck, a pantry, and toilets. These features will enhance the visitor experience, allowing tourists to enjoy the natural beauty while on board.

He stated, “We are actively pursuing a variety of tourism projects, including rural tourism, agri-tourism, and water sports. The potential for water tourism in Uttar Pradesh is vast, and these catamarans are just the starting point.” Singh also highlighted that over 480 million tourists visited the state’s diverse attractions last year, encompassing religious, spiritual, and eco-tourism sites.

Additional Developments in Water Transport

In addition to the catamarans, the IWAI has recently supplied electric boats to Prayagraj, including two mini-cruise boats with a capacity of 30 passengers, along with six motorboats and two rescue boats. These vessels are expected to become operational after the monsoon season, further expanding water-based travel options in the state.

A Comprehensive Tourism Strategy

The introduction of open catamaran boats and various water activities is a key component of Uttar Pradesh’s strategy to diversify its tourism offerings. As Jaiveer Singh noted, “Tourists from across India and around the globe will soon have even more opportunities to explore our state.” This initiative aims not only to attract more visitors but also to enhance the overall tourism experience in Uttar Pradesh.

Conclusion

With the rollout of catamaran boats and the focus on water tourism, Uttar Pradesh is poised to become a premier destination for travelers seeking unique experiences. This initiative reflects the state’s commitment to developing its tourism infrastructure and promoting its rich cultural heritage through innovative approaches.
