Thailand’s decision to extend visa-free entry for Indian tourists by an additional six months is anticipated to spur a surge in arrivals from India. Originally introduced last year and slated to conclude on May 10, 2024, the visa exemption will now extend until November 11.
Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin confirmed the extension following a recent cabinet meeting, allowing Indian passport holders to enjoy up to 30 days per visit to Thailand.
Naveen Nahar, Director of Travelz Factorry, noted a 15 percent rise in inquiries for travel to Thailand following the initial announcement. He predicts sustained interest with this recent extension, suggesting it may attract first-time travelers to opt for Thailand over other destinations.
In response, Indian airlines are ramping up frequencies on popular routes. IndiGo plans to double its flights between Delhi and Phuket from 7 to 14 per week starting June 1, while Air India will introduce a second daily service on the Delhi-Phuket route, also commencing June 1.
Aditya Tyagi, Founder of Luxe Escape, highlighted the growing demand for Thailand among Indian travelers, spanning leisure, MICE, and wedding sectors. Tyagi believes that extending the visa exemption scheme, along with enticing deals and offers, will further bolster Thailand’s presence in the Indian market.
In 2023, Thailand welcomed 1.62 million visitors from India, positioning it as the kingdom’s fourth-largest market. Overall, Thailand recorded over 28 million tourist arrivals last year.
