Avalon Waterways Unveils Expanded French River Cruise Offerings for 2025

by Alice

Avalon Waterways has announced its profound commitment to France in the upcoming year, introducing two new rivers, increasing its total to five, along with six new cruises. This expansion, which results in a 33 percent increase in capacity, is in response to the growing demand for French river cruises. The heightened focus on France coincides with the anticipation surrounding the Paris Olympics in 2024 and reflects the findings of a recent survey conducted by the company, where France emerged as the top destination among cruisers, with 37 percent of respondents expressing their desire to cruise there.

Pam Hoffee, president of Avalon Waterways, expressed excitement about the company’s new offerings, stating, “In 2025, we’re adding another Suite Ship to the rivers of France and cruising Bordeaux for the first time on the Garonne and Dordogne Rivers.” The new Bordeaux itinerary, spanning a week, will provide an immersive experience of the region, which can be combined with cruises along the Seine, Saône, Rhône, and Rhine Rivers, offering travelers a comprehensive exploration of France and Western Europe.

Avalon’s new France-focused itineraries promise to bring Bordeaux to life in innovative ways, with Active, Discovery, and Classic excursions. The flagship cruise, “Bonjour Bordeaux: Châteaux, Wineries & Charming Villages,” is an 8-day journey starting and ending in Bordeaux, with stops at Cadillac-sur-Garonne, Cussac Fort Médoc, Blaye, Bourg, and Libourne. Moreover, this itinerary offers extensions for two- and three-week cruising options, including “French Masterpiece: Paris, Normandy & Bordeaux,” “France, Uncorked: The Rhône, the Seine & Bordeaux,” and “Vineyards, Châteaux & Bordeaux.”

Pam Hoffee emphasized Avalon’s commitment to providing diverse experiences, stating, “Every Avalon cruise invites cruisers to be choosers.” The “Active & Discovery” itineraries offer opportunities for wine-focused excursions in the South of France, culinary tours, painting classes, and even after-dark ghost tours. On the Seine, guests can participate in a Benedictine cocktail workshop, bike through Paris, or canoe past picturesque homes in Vernon.

Avalon’s extensive menu of French cruises for 2025 features 50 itineraries across three Suite Ships: the Avalon Artistry II, Avalon Poetry II, and Avalon Tapestry II. Options include classic cruises such as “Paris to Normandy’s Landing Beaches” and “Burgundy & Provence,” as well as themed cruises like “Rhine & Rhône Revealed for Wine Lovers” and “Grand France for Jazz Lovers.” With its diverse offerings, Avalon Waterways aims to provide travelers with unforgettable experiences along the scenic rivers of France.
